The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
