The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
